Subjective Gameplay Empty
PostSubject: Subjective Gameplay   Subjective Gameplay Icon_minitimeSat Apr 21, 2012 5:42 am

Not sure if this should go here, but

Alright, so Genma and I were just playing and ran into a bit of a subjective event. He thinks I played wrong, but I think I played right. We both have different styles of gameplay, his being more offensive and mine being more defensive.

Basically, he was running Chaos dragons, had a pretty full graveyard, two face-down backrows, a floating CotH, a floating FF, a face-up defense mode Ryko, and a Lyla in attack position on his side of the field. I was running an old version of Piper. My field consisted of a facedown Sangan, no backrow, and he saw me draw a Fader with Piper.

Turn X - I flip Sangan and attack his Ryko. I then use Creature Swap to swap for his Lyla (the mill is great), I activate its effect and target one FD backrow. He chains it, it's BFDD, which he returns 2 monsters with. Endphase I mill 3.

Turn X + 1 - Not sure what he does this turn, other than destroy Lyla by attacking with Sangan. His field does not change, still has face-up attack Sangan.

Turn X + 2 - Here's where stuff happens. I summon Kinka-byo, use Piper's effect and draw something not important. Then, I creature swap Kinka-byo for Sangan. This is where things get debatable. I haven't played in months and was unsure of how Chaos Dragons worked, exactly, so I wanted to play defensively. I didn't want him getting a big monster at all, regardless as to whether I get sangan's effect off. So I creature swapped Kinka-byo for Sangan. Sure, I may have won faster had I waited and saved it, but I didn't want to take the risk. So was my play objectively bad, or is it subjective? Was I right to play like this? Or would it better to have waited, letting him get a chance to summon a rank 3 XYZ or sync/sac with it? I ended up winning this round, but we had a bit of an argument as to whether I was right and it's an objective play, or whether he was right and objectively so.

Here's our conversation;
Code:
[10:44:56 PM] Genma no ou: And game 1, you Creature Swapped a Kinka-Byo to me just to take back Sangan, which was a waste of a Creature Swap. Then you proceeded to forget you couldn't put Sangan in def.
[10:45:54 PM] Jadecavy: The latter was more of a rules mistake, and that Sangan was more useful as a defense to me than where you could use it for any number of things
[10:46:07 PM] Jadecavy: I would've had to discard something
[10:46:19 PM] Genma no ou: Set tha Creature Swap
[10:46:38 PM] Genma no ou: You saw me mill Heavy Storm early-game, and I'd used up my MSTs
[10:46:42 PM] Jadecavy: I don't know the dragon deck that you're running well enough to trust that
[10:47:04 PM] Jadecavy: anyways, again, I didn't want you making an xyz, synching it or tributing it
[10:47:11 PM] Jadecavy: it was better than leaving it there
[10:47:12 PM] Jadecavy: admit it
[10:47:18 PM] Jadecavy: I still beat you
[10:47:59 PM] Genma no ou: I didn't say you didn't beat me.  I mentioned in the gameplay section "didn't affect the outcome of the games"
[10:48:17 PM] Genma no ou: If I Synched or Tributed Sangan, you'd get the effect
[10:48:23 PM] Jadecavy: But all but the JD were subjective at best
[10:48:30 PM] Jadecavy: and you'd still get a bigger threat
[10:48:55 PM] Genma no ou: You bad Battle Fader and I knew it, because you drew it early game with Piper. Yes, I remember that far back in games.
[10:49:04 PM] Jadecavy: Yeah, I know
[10:49:22 PM] Jadecavy: just the one, though, I'd rather play defensively than take unecessary risk
[10:49:44 PM] Genma no ou: You could add a second via Sangan
[10:50:06 PM] Jadecavy: Still, I'd rather have it on my side, I lose nothing from it and you lose a level 3, lol
[10:50:19 PM] Genma no ou: If I'd gone for the big threat, you'd have Battle Fader and be able to use Creature Swap for my threat on your turn, forcing me to NOT summon it
[10:50:31 PM] Jadecavy: or
[10:50:44 PM] Jadecavy: I could take sangan back and you couldn't go for the big threat
[10:51:01 PM] Genma no ou: Except then you can't have the Big Threat
[10:51:15 PM] Jadecavy: I didn't want you having it at all
[10:51:48 PM] Jadecavy: it's totally subjective :P
[10:51:53 PM] Genma no ou: Sangan would have taken at least 2 turns to kill me. a "Big threat" could do it in 1, and decrease the likelihood of me drawing into a comeback
[10:52:08 PM] Jadecavy: I'd rather take two and minimize the risk of you hurting me
[10:52:08 PM] Genma no ou: In this game you have to always be ready for the worst-case scenario
[10:52:13 PM] Jadecavy: exactly
[10:52:19 PM] Jadecavy: that's why I was playing defensively
[10:52:23 PM] Jadecavy: I could've waited
[10:52:33 PM] Jadecavy: but if you'd had something to negate creature swap I'd be fucked
[10:52:50 PM] Jadecavy: It took me longer, but was far safer
[10:52:55 PM] Genma no ou: That's a total lie and you know it
[10:53:06 PM] Jadecavy: Not really
[10:53:07 PM] Stoner Friend: fuuuuuck i'm stoned...
[10:53:11 PM] Jadecavy: we know
[10:53:22 PM] Stoner Friend: you don't know HOW stoned
[10:53:30 PM] Genma no ou: Nick has the compulsion to tell people when and to what extent he is stoned
[10:53:36 PM] Jadecavy: So I could hold you off for one turn with battle fader, maybe 2 with 2, this way I stopped the big threat all together

Anyways, it's a dumb little argument, but I thought it'd make for an interesting conversation on here. So, what do you think, what'd you do?

Also, sorry for any mistakes that might be on here, I typed this in the middle of a skype call with 6 other people, so it was a little tough to concentrate, lol.

Looks like a bit crazy duel to me O.o
I'm not exactly sure what I would do in your situation since I don't really use such kind of deck.... but I guess I would have done the same.... probably... like I said I don't run such deck ^^"

yea... tht was a waste of a creature swap... usually when any deck includes dragon in the name... it implies BIG monster spam... i wuldv saved it by setting then waited for a big monster to come out like pulsar red eyes darkness or five head... even if he did xyz or sacked it u culdv creature swapped tht... and if he did sack sangan u get to search...
