In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's there were special type of monsters against main protagonist in season 2. They are known as "Meklord" monsters. However, Meklords in anime and Meklords in game has many differences. First of all, in anime you use 5 cards for one Meklord monster, however in game it's one card of course. Today, I'll show you Meklord monsters and explain advantages of their effects and the best way to summon them.
First,
Meklord Army of Granel:
EARTH
Machine/Effect
Level 4
ATK 1600/ DEF 1200
Effect: This card gains 100 ATK for each face-up "Meklord" monster you control, except this card. When this card is Normal Summoned, you can halve the ATK of 1 face-up monster your opponent controls until the End Phase.
Pretty good effect that halves opponents monsters ATK. Can be very useful in tight situations when your opponent has summoned powerful monster.
Next,
Meklord Army of Skiel:WIND
Machine/Effect
ATK 1200/ DEF 1000
Effect: This card gains 200 ATK for each face-up "Meklord" monster you control, except this card. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 "Meklord Army" monster from your Deck.
A searcher monster with quite low ATK and DEF, but still can be quite useful. It's never bad to have extra monster in hand.
Meklord Army of Wisel:DARK
Machine/Effect
Level 4
1800 ATK/ 0 DEF
Effect: This card gains 100 ATK for each face-up "Meklord" monster you control, except this card. Once per turn, when another "Meklord" monster you control declares an attack on a Defense Position monster your opponent controls, you can activate this effect. During battle between an attacking "Meklord" monster you control, except this card, and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of the attacking monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent.
At first it doesn't look very impressive, 0 DEF and only 1800 ATK. However, if you manage to get one of poweful Meklord monsters, then your opponent won't be able to defend.
Now, for the 3 main cards of Meklord deck. First,
Meklord Emperor Granel:Machine/Effect
Level 1
ATK 0/ DEF 0
Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by its own effect. When a face-up monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half of your Life Points. Once per turn, you can select 1 Synchro Monster your opponent controls and equip it to this card. This card gains ATK equal to those equipped monsters' combined ATK. During your Main Phase, you can select 1 of those equipped monsters, and Special Summon it to your side of the field in face-up Defense Position.
At first you may think it's a pathetic monster, because it has 0 ATK and DEF and it's only Level 1. But then check it's effect carefully. This monster gains ATK and DEF equal to half of your Life Points so normally it should be 4000 ATK/DEF. That's quite impressive and then look at it's other effect. You can equip your opponent's Synchro monster to this card and even better, you can Special Summon it to your side of field in Defense position. Amazing!
Next,
Meklord Emperor Skiel:WIND
Machine/Effect
Level 1
ATK 2200/ DEF 2200
Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by its own effect. When a face-up monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Other monsters you control cannot declare an attack. Once per turn, you can select 1 Synchro Monster your opponent controls, and equip it to this card. This card gains ATK equal to those equipped monsters' combined ATK. You can send 1 monster equipped to this card to the Graveyard to allow this card to attack your opponent directly this turn.
Just like Granel, at first it doesn't look very impressive, however it's effect makes-up for that. Firstly, it can take control of your opponents Synchro monster and gains it's ATK. Even better you can send equiped monster to grave to attack opponent directly. Deadly ability to your opponent, especially if you have more then one monster equiped to this card. However, other your monsters won't be able to attack.
Meklord Emperor Wisel:DARK
Machine/Effect
Level 1
ATK 2500/ DEF 2500
Effect: Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned by its own effect, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When a face-up monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card (from your hand). Other monsters you control cannot declare an attack. Once per turn: You can target 1 Synchro Monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card. This card gains ATK equal to those equipped monsters' combined ATK. Once per turn, when an opponent's Spell Card is activated: You can negate the activation and destroy it.
Quite a monster I have to say. Has pretty decent original ATK and amazing effect. Just like other Meklord Emperor's this card can take control of your opponent's Synchro monster and gains all it's power. Also once per turn you can negate activation of your opponents Spell card. Amazing isn't it? Such monster is deadly threat to your opponent. However, your other monsters won't be able to attack.
Now main problem of Meklord Emperor's is that they can only be Special Summoned when your face-up monster is destroyed. That's quite troublesome. You can't just wait for your opponent to destroy your monsters. You have to take matters in your own cards. Here some tips how to summon Meklord Emperors.
First, use monsters that can't be destroyed by battle, so your opponent has to destroy them by effect. Two of most common cards like that are
Marshmallon and
Spirit Reaper.
Another monster I would suggest to use is
Aurora Paragon. It's self-destructing effect is perfect for Meklord Emperor deck.
The best way to get out Meklord Emperor is by using sch card as
Dark Hole and
Torrential Tribute. You destroy both your and your opponent's monsters and get to summon Meklord Emperor monsters.
There are two traps made especially for Meklord monsters. One is
Meklord Factory, which destroys Meklord monster that your opponent chose as attack target and get Meklord Army monster to hand. Second is
Mektimed Blast, which let's you destroy one your Meklord monster and one your opponents monster.
Meklords can be mixed with
Scrap monsters because their self-destructing effect's will let you summon Meklord Emperor monster and activate their own effects.
There are many more ways to summon Meklord Emperor monsters but I'll leave that up to you!
Now for grand finalle! Two Ace monsters of this deck:
Meklord Astro Dragon AsteriskDARK
Machine/Effect
Level 10
ATK 0/ DEF 0
Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by controlling 3 or more face-up "Meklord" monsters. When this card is Special Summoned, you can select any number of face-up "Meklord" monsters you control, except this card, and send them to the Graveyard. This card's ATK is equal to the total original ATK of the monsters sent to the Graveyard by this effect. While this card is face-up on the field, when a Synchro Monster(s) is Special Summoned, inflict 1000 damage to the player that Summoned.
Amazing monster, which can gain amazing ATK power. Just with one Meklord Emperor monster it can gain a lot due their ATK drain effects and add all 3 together. I dont even want to know the maximum power this monster can reach. Plus each time your opponent summon Synchro Monster he/she gets 1000 damage.
Last but not least,
Meklord Astro Mekanikle:
LIGHT
Machine/Effect
Level 12
ATK 4000/ DEF 4000
Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by sending 3 other "Meklord" monsters from your hand to the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can select 1 face-up Synchro Monster your opponent controls, and equip it to this card. This card gains ATK equal to those equipped monsters' combined ATK. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you can send 1 of those monsters to the Graveyard to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its ATK. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.
The top card of Meklord deck and not very hard to summon. Just like Meklord Emperor's it can equip opponent's Synchro Monsters and gain it's power. And that's not all. It even has this deadly ability that during each Standby Phase it can send equipped monster to graveyard and inflict damage to your opponent equal to it's ATK. Knowing that Synchro monster are usually pretty strong means that your opponent should usually take damage of about 2000. Deadly, with this card game can end pretty fast.
