| THIS IS THE EXAMPLE Many people get confused by this. If somebody summons Gorz, battle fader, dark simorgh as in the example, tragoedia, cyber dragon or monsters with similar effects, YOU CAN chain war chariot to negate the special summon, although if the monster had costs for special summon the costs are not effects so they can't be negated (like simorgh has cost to banish 1 wind and dark monster from grave). The monster whose eff was negated goes to grave like written on war chariot. Other special summons and effects: You can activate War chariot on effects which activates in grave. Examples: sangan, mystic tomato, stardust dragon etc. If you activate war chariot on Flip effects while you were attacking with a gladiator beast, war chariot negates the activation of the effect and destroys it, then GB is treated as having battled. Mentioning the rule about stardust; If you negated the Special summoning Stardust dragon from grave at the end phase, It CANNOT return because it didn't negate any effects at that time and the SS effect cannot be applied. (if i am wrong anywhere tell me) |

| You can't activate War Chariot due to an Inherent Special Summon. You need to ask yourself this, when these cards are Special Summoned, do they start a chain? If the answer is no, then you can't activate it. If the answer is yes, then you can activate War Chariot as Chain Link 2 and negate it.
In your first example, you can't activate War Chariot as Sirocco has an Inherent Summon ability. It never activates in his hand. Because the conditions are met to Normal Summon without tributing, he can just summon his monster normally. The same thing goes for cards like Cyber Dragon. His Special Summoning conditions are met and you can Special Summon him normally. It never activates or starts a chain.
In your second example, however, you can activate War Chariot as Phantom Dragon's effect is activating and starting a Chain due to the response of you Special Summoning a monster. Therefore, you can activate War Chariot as the next Chain Link and negate it while it is still in your opponents hand and destroy it.
However, some cards may still activate from the hand, but if it is during the Damage Step, you still might not be able to use War Chariot. Gorz activates in the Damage Step only, but I don't think you can use War Chariot in this situation. This is much like how you cannot activate Solemn Judgment or Trap Hole to negate or destroy a monster that a searcher like Giant Rat or Mystic Tomato can summon. I'm pretty positive on this, but not 100%. Maybe 95%.
Well I hope I helped. I'm 100% on the rest. Just that Gorz ruling I'm not fully positive on. |

| actually both of you are wrong in some parts chariot can negate Gorz battel fader honest kault etc.. chariot isnt like solemn j it negates the effect of Gorz not the summon chariot cant negate cards like cydra and how can you even negate dark simporgh with chariot ._. ? special summoning doesnt mean that he activated some effect you can negate http://www.yugiohcardguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=21335 Google it and search pojo if you want a deeper explaintion. |

| I think it can negate simorgh/chaose, for the same reason solemn judment can't. Their summon is the resolution of their effects, so it can be negated |

| Chaos Sorcerer's special summon is not an effect and doesn't start a chain. Chariot can't negate special summon. Solemn Judgment can.
Dark Simorgh's special summon is considered as an ignition-effect. It start a chain, and Chariot can negate it while Solemn Judgment can't. why is it ignition? the answer is probably only konmai knows.
Gorz's effect to special summon itself isn't always in damage step. Ookazi might as well trigger his effect.
Found nothing wrong in the current original post. |

| copy paste from wikia http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:War_chariot_Q%27s Can it negate the Dark Simorgh effect of Special Summon from my hand? Yes, since it's an effect, but removed Wind/Dark monster is cost. It can't negate Masked Dragon's effect, right?" Wrong, it's an effect, again, you can kill it like Exiled Force vs. Divine Wrath, you don't need to destroy him in order to negate the entire effect. As for gorz, copy paste pojo (man who answered has more than 9000 posts) http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=634979
If Player A has a face-up Gladiator Beast and attacks, Player B special summons Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. Can Player A chain Gladiator Beast War Chariot to negate the effect of Gorz and destroy it? Answers would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yes.
Theres the proof, i didnt post all this by my own opinion guys.
If the special summon of a monster is a result of an effect, You CAN negate THAT EFFECT. Since Dark simorgh's effect is to SS itself on field you negate ITs eff and destroy IT and not another monster like mystic tomato.
But the problem is inherent special summon..... >.> Many people say 1 thing and also many say the other. Who to believe? |

| the special summon does not start a chain. It's an inherent special summon. These can be negated by things like Royal Oppression, Solemn Judgment, or Horn of Heaven, but the inherent Special Summon effect doesn't start a chain and thus can't be War Charioted/Divine Wrath'd.
Chariot can only negate things that 'Activate'. So it cannot negate Inherent Special Summon Conditions, nor can it negate Continuous Monster Effects. |
