Hi Everyone, I'm really new to YGO and I've been doing a lot of reading and tried some games out on DN. My question is when would be a good time to get into YGO (is it similar to MTG where they have blocks and formats and best to join in when a new format/block starts) and if anyone can provide feedback on this deck I've been using on DN. I would like to try out competitive decks on DN and then buy them IRL to play some some local shops and tournaments.

Any advice, tips, comments and criticism is welcome!

as a start this deck is outdated, and even when the september 2012 banlist comes around it may still be hard to work with. That said, I can give you a somewhat workable version of the deck, should you still want to go down this route

scapegoat is useless and like kaiza said that deck is outdated cuz bulb is banned dustshoot is banned and spore is banned (spore will be limited in the sept banlist tho) and reborn tengu is at 2 and trish is banned
erm a plant synchro deck rai oh is bad caius is bad spirit reaper is bad and 3 maxx c is bad
i dont particularly like debris dragon but its usable. and take out the xyz monsters.
ok so u want 3 ally of justice birdman. you say u want a plant synchro deck so perhaps 2 dark verger and 3 copy plant. maybe 2 the fallen angel of roses you also want 2 rykos and 1 charge of the light brigade to mill some cards and perhaps plaguespreader zombie too.
you want queen of thorns for a little lock summon lock and shooting quasar probably and shooting star.

hmmmm looking at your side deck and taking out all the banned cards from the main and extra deck that does not look like a plant synchro deck its more of an anti meta deck.... so take out all side especially pachy >.> except for that mst bottomless and smashing ground. u want +2 veiler in side for tuner and monster eff nullifier

the @#!+ are you talking about plant synchro totally used tour guide 2 formats ago when it was good. you know before they banned all the plant part.

ofc this deck is from currently last format but there is also a new format starting on the first of next month but a lot of ppl in the unlimited section are playing by the new ban list already in preparation for next format

I've been reading about Return of the Duelist and people were talking about Madolche decks going to be popular. I'm trying to figure out which is a good set to stay competitive with for the next couple of formats/sets or however the system works.

well the thing is you never know what deck will be conpetitive next format and you rly cant think about that untill its aobut a month off. yu gi oh is not that similar we have no real resource system other than the cards in your hand and your 1 normal summon per turn. also any deck that domminates at tourniments could get nurfed to the point of unuseableness if konami feels like it every march 1 and september 1. the only deck that has been compettitive and not hardly been touched has been elemental heros which started off bad became good a few packs later and only recenlty got some cards limited to 2. i think its easiest to join in about a month or so into a format when things are figgured out cuz at the start unless you are familiar with the decks already i think it would be hard to pick out what to use as there are so many options atm there rly are so many options useing full or half or many engins. but its not that bad of a time unless you try to learn this format instesd of the one that starts in 10 days or so

Thanks for your response, if you have time I'd greatly appreciate it if you could share your list with me. I've been trying out some decks I've seen out on Dueling Network and I seem to be running into some roadblocks as most of the lists I've found are outdated. I did find a link to a banlist that appears to be revealed before September.

Thank you to everyone so far for your responses, they're really helping me understand things. Does anyone have some suggestions about what I can gather now to support the next format coming out in Sept 1st?

with the return of spore, trishula, and semi-limiting debris, plants got that extra amount of boost they need to get back to tier 1.5 maybe 1. i as a synchro expert? no lets say freak* know how strong spore is in synchro decks. all it needs is that right build and the correct playstyle adapt to that build. with dandy and spore in your deck, lonefire and reborn in your hand, you can summon ssd instantly and still ahve 5 cards in your hand. combine that with a decent amount of traps and you can and will win from those heavy hit tier 1 decks.

my point is that plant synchro got playable again in this next format. all it needs is that lil bit of skill to make that right build. i think i have said enough.

I gotta agree that plant sycnhro is like the most funnest deck of all time.. well until it got nearly dead -.-

well they had to restrict 5 of its cards to kill it XD

and 2: even tho most of the good cards are restricted you can still have a plant synchro deck that hits very hard.. perhaps try a different support like black garden....
