This is my first article tell me
how I did and what could be better feel free to post your build or the type of
deck you used

Here is what we will be talking
about today


  • 1. Brief info on the deck/background information

The magical is
an archetype coming from “Return of the duelist”;
they are based off tarot cards like the “Arcana
Force”. “The Magical’s” effects are based on “The Books of Spell” spell cards, needing them to activate their
effects, effects to get the spells in hand, or effects to reuse the spells. Most
of “The book of spell” spell cards have the condition of you can only use one
copy of the card per turn this is probably to prevent another wind-up or
inzektors from happening. “The magical”
is a versatile archetype that can be made into a lot of different variants
waiting to be explored.

Let us go over
the cards first. There really is no main
card in the archetype it depends on what you going for in the deck.

Chario the
magical swordsman


WIND
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 4
Atk/1800
Def/1300
Effect: Once
per turn: You can discard 1 "Book of Spell" Spell Card; add 1
Spellcaster-Type monster from your Graveyard to your hand.


He helps you
get any spellcaster in your grave, any level, any type, and any spellcaster
afro

Forse the
magical warrior

FIRE
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 4
Atk/ 1500 Def/1400
Effect: Once
per turn: You can shuffle 1 "Book of Spell" Spell Card from your
Graveyard into your Deck to target 1 face-up Spellcaster-Type monster you
control; increase its Level by 1 and ATK by 500.


This allows you
to reuse the spell cards in your grave by putting it back in your deck, easy to
get back with all the search power you have. Boost the level and atk of any
spellcaster best thing is its permanent it’s useful for Xyz, synchros, recycling.


Junon the
magical priestess

LIGHT
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 7
Atk/2500
Def/2100
Effect: You can
Special Summon this card (from your hand) by revealing 3 "Book of
Spell" Spell Cards in your hand. Once per turn: You can banish 1
"Book of Spell" Spell Card from your hand or Graveyard to target 1
card your opponent controls; destroy it.

Keep it in your
pants boys, she’s a card. This card, you
could say is the “BOSS” monster of the deck.
You may think that her summoning condition is inconsistent but in my experience
mostly to all the spells in your deck will be “book of spells” and it’s not
uncommon to to have 3 in your hand at a time with junon. On the second effect its an easy cost from
the start of the duel until the end you will almost always have spells in grave,
also can destroy ANY card on your opponents side of the field.

L’amour the
magical archer

EARTH
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 3
Atk/600
Def/2000
Effect: Once
per turn: You can reveal 1 "Book of Spell" Spell Card in your hand;
Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Spellcaster-Type monster from your hand.

This card is
lovely has possibilities xyz, synchro, any other random shenanigans. L’amour’s effect
kind of explains itself.

Temper the
magical summoner

EARTH
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 3
Atk/1000
def/1000
Effect: During the Main
Phase of the turn you activated a "Book of Spell" Spell Card: You can
Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher LIGHT or DARK
Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck. You cannot Special Summon other Level
5 or higher monsters the turn you activate this effect.

This card won’t see play in all builds, but
you will see in some. Her effect is easy to get off with all the searching
spell cards you have and a level 5 or higher spellcaster light or dark monster
sounds good to me, I believe most spellcaster monsters above level 5 are light
and dark. She’s versatile a pretty good
card.

Batel of the
book of spell

WATER
Spellcaster/Effect
Level 2
ATK/500 DEF/400
Effect: When
this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: Add 1 "Book of
Spell" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.

Simple searcher.
If you don’t want to be left open, you can set him for your search.


Now for the
long awaited “Book of spell” spell cards

First up

The grimoire
books of spell

Effect: Add 1
"Book of Spell" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Grimoire
Book of Spell". You can only activate 1 "Grim Book of Spell" per
turn.

Another searcher
for the “book of spell” cards good for deck thinning and setting up hand

The hygromantei
book of spell

Target 1
Spellcaster-Type monster you control; that target gains 1000 ATK until the End
Phase. If that target destroys an opponent monster by battle: You can add 1
"Book of Spell" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only
activate 1 "Hygromantei Book of Spell" per turn.

Usually I would
not waste space on a normal spell that raises atk only until the end phase, but
it gets you a “book of spell” card when your monster destroys another by battle,
so it’s a card to look at.

The necronomicon
book of spell

EQUIP SPELL
Banish 1
Spellcaster-Type monster from your Graveyard and reveal 1 "Book of
Spell" Spell Card in your hand to target 1 Spellcaster-Type monster in
your Graveyard; Special summon it, and equip this card to that target. Increase
the Level of the equipped monster by the Level of the banished monster. You can
only activate 1 "Necronomicon Book of Spell" per turn.

This is a
pretty good card does better than I thought kind of like a faster “call of the
haunted”, but be careful I messes with your monsters level which can be a pro
and a con.

QUICK PLAY SPELL
Effect: Target
1 face-up Spellcaster-Type monster on the field; apply 1 of these effects.


● This turn,
that target is unaffected by the effects of other Spell Cards.


● This turn,
that target is unaffected by the effects of Trap Cards.

Great card not
much to say, except that it’s great because it is a quick play spell.

that Is out of the way we can move on to the other cards you should think about(These
won’t come with pictures I will expect you know these cards, sorry).

Now on to some decks, and play styles. These decks are not the only ones you can
build just some skeletal ideas, be creative and do what you feel like.

Anti-meta

This is a sort
of anti-meta deck, for those of you who don’t know how to play an anti-meta
deck basically prevent powerful plays, run over them with your beats stick,
cripple there deck. This type what I would do, is search with grim for torah,
summon forse put grim back in deck with forse’s effect, set torah and other
cards, sit on it wash, rinse, repeat. Here

thunder king rai-oh(simple, good balanced card be careful you do search a lot, so maybe not the best choice unless you can play around it)
tragodia(over gorz because you do play alot of traps)
allure(you do run a good amount of dark monsters)
book of moon(simple control card)
heavy storm
secret village of the spellcasters(control of your opps spells most ppl cant win without spells, believe it or not)
shrink(keeps your monster from being destroyed also doing battle damage,quick play so chainable)
smashing ground(get rid of annoying monsters)
necronomicon(if you want to speed up the deck)
call of the haunted(same as the above card)
compulsory(get rid of annoying cards,especially extra deck cards)
dimensional prison(a good trap card)


Temper decks

Your goal here is to use tempers
effect to get out a high level spellcaster and troll the field with it, or use
any other tactics you see fit. Cards you could use instead of junon are in the
side also some suggested cards.

chaos command magician(not that great of a card he looks kinda cool)
cybernetic magician(your monster or your opp making then easy to destroy)
D.D.M. Different dimenstion master(if you can think of a build with lots of banishing then this card is good maybe chaos?)
dark magician girl(dark magician deck)
delg the shadow monarch(control builds)
endymion, the master of magician(endymion builds ofc)
fortune lady dark(this may make fortune ladies more consistent)
magical marionette(you do activate alot of spells he will gain like 400 each turn, pop two each turn)
sorciere de fleur(all types of crazy shenanigan you might be able to do with her)
bound wand(atk gain, and you will get your monster back if its destroyed)
diffusion wave motion(kinda situational but worth a look)
heavy storm(staple i dont run in the deck)
magical dimension(helps get your clogy high level spellcasters out of hand, and on the field)
wonder wand (atk boost, draw power)



The last deck is Gagaga
book. I think this is self-explanatory xyz

neo galaxy-eyes photon dragon(possible to summon pretty good card)



Other decks you could try is level
3 engine with l’amour, tour guide and other level 3 spell casters. Maybe archinite
magician assault mode, level 4 engine with exemplar and monk, spellcaster turbo
I would recommend birdman and any level 3 spellcaster monster.

Most of these are suggestions so feel free to explore


My conclusion is I like this archetype because its original and gives the duelist many possibilities for the
play style and deck they want to use so go wild =)

Ok so in the new abyss rising there is new support for the magical archatype and i am here to tell you what they are lets get started

First up is...
lependu the magical practitioner/Magical Warlock, La Pende


WATER
SPELLCASTER/EFFECT
LEVEL 1
ATK/300
DEF/200
EFFECT: When this card is sent to the Graveyard: Add 1 Level 3 "Magical" monster (except "Magical Reflect Slime" or "White Magical Hat") from your Deck to your hand.

this effect is really good for the magicals because most of their most needed monsters are level 3. Another reason why this card is good is because it says when this card is sent to the graveyard,not from field to graveyard, just sent to graveyard, which means his effect will activate when sent to the grave for a detach of a xyz monster effect, and it will activate when used for a synchro summon.

Ermite the magical sage/magical lao-tse, Ermit


EARTH
SPELLCASTER/EFFECT
LEVEL 3
ATK/1200
DEF/700
EFFECT: Each time a "Spellbook" Spell Card is activated: Increase this card's Level by 2 and have it gain 300 ATK. You must control this face-up card to activate and to resolve this effect.

this card is good because of the new rank 5 magical xyz . also he gives you more possibilities in what your going to do since playing 2 spellbook cards is no problem through his effect you can get the the levels you really want 5,7 and the other levels are 9,11 the atk gaining is really just a bonus. FUN FACT: you can synchro summon with him.

well this card is good searcher you can get 2 needed cards to your hand not much to say. also effect veiler is useless on her

DEF/2000
EFFECT:You can banish 1 other face-up Spellcaster-Type monster you control and 1 "Spellbook" card from your Graveyard to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; gain control of that target until the End Phase. The effect of "Empeur the Magical King" can only be activated once per turn, and this card cannot attack during the turn it is activated.

well well well another boss monster with a good effect along with number 11:Big Eye and magi magi girl(if you run the gaga build) he is the 3rd monster that can take control of your opponents monster, level 5 you only need one tribute and can be special summoned by temper.

THE SPELLBOOK CARDS

FIRST

FIELD SPELL
EFFECT: Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, if you have a Spellcaster-Type monster on your side of the field or in your Graveyard: Return 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Graveyard, except for "La Maison the Spellbook Tower", to the bottom of your Deck, then draw 1 card. When this card is destroyed by your opponent and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 Spellcaster-Type monster from your hand or Deck whose Level is equal to or less than the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards in your Graveyard.

you knew it was coming, a field spell everyone and it is awesome you get to draw twice every turn and you get to special summon ANY spellcaster from your deck equal to or less then the number of spellbooks in you graveyard when it gets destroyed by your opponent, as long as you have one you can always special summon a monster.

The alma spellbook/almanac book of magic


SPELL
EFFECT:Target 1 of your banished "Spellbook" Spell Card, except for "The Alma Spellbook"; add that target to your hand. Only 1 "The Alma Spellbook" can be activated per turn.

Well thanks to this card spell book can be toolboxed from the deck, graveyard, and now banished zone.


the goethe spellbook/goeth book of magic


QUICK-PLAY SPELL
EFFECT:If you control a Spellcaster-Type monster: Banish up to 3 "Spellbook" Spell Cards from your Graveyard; activate 1 of these effects depending on the number banished. Only 1 "The Goethe Spellbook" can be activated per turn.
●1: Return 1 Set Spell/Trap Card to the hand.
●2: Change 1 monster on the field to either face-down Defense Position or face-up Attack Position.
●3: Banish 1 card your opponent controls.

what makes this card great is the fact that it is a quick play and work well with alma to immediately get back what ever you banished.

THE XYZ MONSTERS

this card is good and easy to get out, and it might force your opponent play more conservative with their back row heavy storm isn't the end of it.

Trice the magical Queen/magical imperial saint, triss


LIGHT
SPELLCASTER/XYZ/EFFECT
RANK 5
ATK/2000
DEF/1700
EFFECT: 2 Level 5 monsters
This card gains 300 ATK for each Xyz Material attached to Xyz Monsters you control. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; shuffle your Deck, then reveal the top 5 cards of your Deck, and destroy a number of monsters on the field up to the number of revealed "Spellbook" cards. Then, return the revealed cards to the top of the Deck in any order.

this is yet another good she come out with 2600 atk and her effect let your destroy a random amount of monster(you should get at least one if you deck is built like mine) and you can place the cards in any order meaning you get to control what you get your next 5 draws(assuming that you don't shuffle, but you will).

the big eye version seems to be the most effective and/or annoying of the decks

The way ive been using them is as a junk varient with apprentice magician/batel its easy for junk syncro... I feel theyr kinda similar to agents in that... I think that all you really need out of the archetype to be effective is the searcher the toolbox and the boss (batel temper and junon). Another decent card For temper is endymion... I mean it is dark for chaos and can xyz with junon. I also side 3 village and decree for the same reason the guy who got top i think... 4(?) with chaos pipersided all of his traps except torrential... So that when they see i dont run a lot of traps theyl side out spell/trap destruction then game 2 get controllololed... Im still testing them myself and playing around with them though so i could be totally off base with them lol i think another fun way to run them is with gagaga, temper and Reckless summon for easy magi magi girl.

Wow, an awesome article alice nt to mention the new support is what will make this deck even stronger and funner to use, we might c many players using this deck in the future Very Happy

yeah i believe people will start using the deck with the new support, it was strong before but now its just even stronger Very Happy the next article i was thinking of doing mermails
